Sanghwa Park (she/her) is a scenographer and visual artist based in Germany.

From the 2018/19 to the 2021/22 season, she worked as a scenography assistant and stage manager at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, where she was involved in numerous international productions. From 2017 to 2019, she was a fellow of the Akademie Musiktheater heute of the Deutsche Bank Stiftung.

As a scenographer, Park works in opera, drama, dance theatre, performance, and film, realizing projects with theatres and artists in Germany and abroad, including with the collective FCDU and in international festival contexts such as Avignon.

Her artistic practice is rooted in scenography and extends into visual art, performance, writing, and directing. She works with collage, personal memory, responses, and protocols, and examines the relationship between conceptual ideas and their physical manifestation. Space, material, and the audience’s bodily experience are central starting points of her work.

Alongside this, Park researches sustainability, digitalization, and contemporary stage art. She worked as an academic associate at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart (Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart) and has continued this research since September 2026 as an artistic associate at Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin. Her research centers on sustainable production practices in digital theatre and contemporary stage contexts.

SH Garten is Park’s open, project-based artistic platform for experiments at the intersections of scenography, performance, and other artistic practices. It allows her to translate her long experience as a scenographer into open artistic formats and to develop projects in changing constellations with artists from different fields. For this application, SH Garten opens up once again as a space for work and development. In the further process, the piece is to be developed and brought to performance together with the house’s actors and dramaturgy, as well as a sound designer of her own.
